Application Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 14, 2026
This policy describes what data the StratoLens application transmits to StratoLens LLC when deployed in your Azure environment. StratoLens runs entirely within your own infrastructure — your Azure resource data never leaves your control.
Looking for the website privacy policy? For information about how we handle data collected through strato-lens.com (email signups, website analytics), see our Website Privacy Policy.
Data Always Collected (Required for License Validation)
The following data is transmitted after each successful scan for license management purposes:
- Installation ID — Unique anonymous identifier for your StratoLens installation (UUID)
- Tenant ID — Your Azure tenant identifier (UUID)
- Subscription Count — Number of Azure subscriptions in your environment
- Last Successful Scan — Timestamp of your most recent scan completion
- StratoLens Version — Version of StratoLens you are running
- Company Name — Your company name (if configured in Settings)
- Contact Email — Your contact email (if configured in Settings)
- Billing Contact — Your billing contact email (if configured in Settings)
Optional Usage Metrics
You can choose to share additional anonymous usage metrics and error reports to help us improve the product. Navigate to Settings > Privacy & Data Sharing in StratoLens and toggle "Report errors and usage metrics" to enable or disable this sharing.
What We Collect (When Enabled)
Environment Scale Metrics — aggregate counts only:
- Number of Azure subscriptions, management groups, and resource groups
- Total resource count and count of distinct resource types
Scan Statistics:
- Total scans completed (lifetime and monthly)
- Breakdown by scan type (manual, scheduled, failed)
- Scan duration metrics (min, max, average, latest)
Anonymized User Activity:
- User identifiers are SHA-256 hashed and truncated to 8 characters (not reversible to actual identity)
- Page view counts per feature area (dashboard, explorer, cost explorer, etc.)
- Detail panel open counts per feature area
- Current and prior month activity periods
Aggregated Engagement Metrics:
- Total page views and detail panel opens across all users
- Unique StratoLens user count (hashed IDs only)
- Active days count
Installation Metadata:
- Installation date and last metrics update timestamp
- Metrics schema version
Error Reports:
- Errors encountered when scanning your Azure environment (error types and messages only, no resource data)
Scanner Performance Metrics:
To help us identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, we collect anonymous timing data about scan operations:
- How long each scanning phase takes (in milliseconds)
- The count of items processed in each phase (e.g., number of subscriptions, number of resources)
- Whether each phase completed successfully or encountered an error
This data contains no identifying information — no subscription IDs, resource names, tenant details, or any other sensitive data. Only aggregate durations and counts are collected to help us understand where scans may be slow and prioritize performance improvements.
Metrics are collected in aggregate form and may evolve over time as the product develops. The optional usage metrics described above are not intended to identify any individual person.
What We Do NOT Collect
- No Azure resource names, IDs, or configurations
- No subscription names or identifiers
- No credentials, secrets, or authentication data
- No cost amounts or billing data
- No activity log content
- No policy findings or security configurations
How We Use This Data
We use the data transmitted by the StratoLens application to:
- Validate your StratoLens license and manage subscription entitlements
- Improve StratoLens based on anonymous usage patterns (if you opt in to metrics sharing)
- Identify and fix performance bottlenecks in the scanning process
- Diagnose and resolve errors reported by installations
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make significant changes to the data collected by the application, we will communicate those changes through the StratoLens application itself and update this page. The "Last updated" date at the top indicates when it was last revised.
