Commitment Coverage
StratoLens gives you a single inventory of every Azure Reserved Instance and Savings Plan you own, with monthly cost, utilization, and expiry status side by side. Recommendations split into Purchase, Underutilized, and Expiring, and resolved fixes show up as Realized Savings.
What You'll Learn
- How to read the Commitments dashboard and its four summary cards
- What the three recommendation categories mean and how to act on them
- How the two data tiers (base and enhanced) shape what you can see
- How to grant the two opt-in Azure roles that unlock enhanced data
- How to tune thresholds, evaluation windows, and lookback periods
Data tier matters
By default, StratoLens runs in base tier: inventory and monthly cost only. Utilization, wastage, expiry, and SKU details require granting two opt-in Azure roles. See Permissions & Data Tier for the grant flow.
Key Capabilities
Unified Inventory
One row per reservation or savings plan with type, term, expiry, utilization, and monthly cost.
Three-Bucket Recommendations
Purchase, Underutilized, and Expiring, color-coded and grouped by subscription so you can act on what matters first.
Tier-Aware Permissions
Inventory works with the default Reader role. Two opt-in role grants unlock utilization, wastage, expiry, and SKU details.
Realized Savings Tracking
Renewed, downsized, or exchanged commitments surface under Show resolved with the savings the change unlocked.
Tunable Alerting
Configure underutilization threshold, evaluation window, expiry warning days, and lookback period to match your environment.
Hide What You've Decided
Hide recommendations you've already acted on, with an optional reason recorded to the activity log. Hide is tenant-wide.
Related Features
- Automated Scanning: Commitment data is collected during the cost phase of every scan. The default cadence is every 8 hours; you can run an on-demand scan to see new data sooner.
- Cost Anomaly Detection: When a commitment expires and a workload reverts to on-demand pricing, the resulting spend bump shows up here.
- Email Notifications: A commitment-coverage email alert fires after each scan when new recommendations are detected.
